GreenTrees’ Mississippi Alluvial Valley Reforestation Project Named Top Project of the Year by Environment + Energy Leader

THE PLAINS, VA. – JULY 18, 2023: GreenTrees, a global leader in reforestation to answer climate change and the largest reforestation program in the U.S., today announced its Mississippi Alluvial Valley (MAV) reforestation project has been honored with the prestigious Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program. This accolade recognizes the MAV project for making great strides in environmental management in a historically low-income region of the U.S.

“We’re excited to have our MAV project recognized by Environment + Energy Leader,” said Chandler Van Voorhis, co-founder and managing partner of GreenTrees. “It’s a project we are especially proud of as the impact extends far beyond carbon removal, including improved water and air quality, restored wildlife habitats and a new source of income for landowners interested in greener land use.”

The MAV project is facilitated by GreenTrees, the market leader in reforestation and carbon removal in the U.S. GreenTrees incentivizes individual landowners to plant forests, measure the growth annually and convert into carbon credits. The MAV project works to restore the region’s forests and wildlife habitats through large-scale reforestation efforts by empowering small and medium-sized landowners through financial incentives from carbon credits.

Nature-based carbon removals, i.e., reforestation, are the only currently scalable technology for repairing the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions. By effectively pulling carbon out of the Earth’s atmosphere, trees, grasses, and soil can recalibrate the atmosphere, hence the term carbon removal. GreenTrees is the largest effort in the U.S. to generate nature-based carbon offset credits through reforestation and is the most effective and scalable strategy, when compared to currently available carbon capture technology.

GreenTrees successfully forged partnerships with more than 600 landowners to establish the largest reforestation project in the U.S. with a 99.64% market share of ex post facto vital credits issued to date. GreenTrees accounts for 44% of all U.S. voluntary carbon credits. GreenTrees has planted more than 60 million trees, sequestered 6.3 million tons of carbon and helped restore 3.4 billion liters of water stored in the forested ecosystem. Proceeds from the sale carbon credits provide a viable source of income.

The outstanding qualities and remarkable achievements of the MAV project captivated the attention of the program’s distinguished panel of judges. One judge remarked, ” The Mississippi Alluvial Valley (MAV) is very useful at providing landowner environmental benefits. The MAV is beneficial for small and large landowners.” Another judge added, “The Mississippi Alluvial Valley is an industry leader in reforestation and has a promising future to upscale.” These testimonials affirm the exceptional impact and excellence of the MAV project in driving sustainability.

Sarah Roberts, Co-President of E+E Leader, emphasized the rigorous selection process, stating, “This year’s entrants had to surpass an exceptionally high bar to qualify for an award, thanks to a seasoned and discerning judging panel as well as stringent judging criteria.”

The annual Environment + Energy Leader Awards program recognizes excellence in products and projects that deliver significant energy and environmental benefits. For over a decade, they have celebrated excellence in the world of environmental, sustainability and energy management. Award recipients are acknowledged as industry leaders, and featuring a Top Project or Top Product of the Year Award badge signifies their outstanding contributions. Project of the Year Award winners exemplify how sustainability and energy management projects can successfully enhance the profitability of other companies.

About GreenTrees
GreenTrees is the market leader in reforestation and carbon removal in the U.S. A model land equity program for landowners, GreenTrees generates the largest number of forestry carbon removal credits in the U.S. The only carbon removal program open to both small and large landowners, GreenTrees engages individual landowners to plant forests, measure the growth annually and convert the annual growth into carbon credits. All carbon credits in GreenTrees’ projects undergo a rigorous verification process by the American Carbon Registry and are accepted by global environmental markets as the highest standard for quality in nature-based carbon removals. Wholly owned by ACRE Investment Management, LLC, GreenTrees has engaged 600+ landowners ranging from 10 to 3,500+ acres and planted 130,000+ acres of forests that have removed more than six million metric tons of carbon from the Earth’s atmosphere; these existing planted acres will remove a projected 30 million metric tons over the next 40 years; additional plantings will grow carbon removal capacity significantly as GreenTrees’ parent company’s affiliate platform company, ACRE IO, will accelerate planting velocity for GreenTrees and other independent projects. Fortune 500 companies trust GreenTrees’ carbon credits to meet sustainability goals and combat climate change. For more information about GreenTrees, visit https://stagegreentree.wpengine.com/.
